It is Fairfood’s mission to improve the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable people, such as smallholder farmers, workers (especially women) and consumers in our food system and to ensure the sustainable production and consumption of food, by influencing the policies and practices of global food and beverage companies and governments.
Purpose of the position:
The Campaign Assistant (Research) will work closely with the Manager Advocacy (Research) Madagascar to implement an advocacy campaign addressing socio-economic issues within the vanilla supply chain in Madagascar. The Campaign Assistant (Research) will focus on research, advocacy and/or communications. Any outputs generated will be used directly in the advocacy campaign.
Position within the organisation:
Fairfood’s Advocacy department is composed of multidisciplinary teams working on advocacy interventions focused on various regions of the world (referred to as “Hotspots”). As a Campaign Assistant (Research), you will be working within Madagascar Hotspot. The Madagascar Hotspot focuses on improving sustainability in the Madagascar vanilla industry. The team has started to implement the project, which aims to influence corporate stakeholders to address socio-economic issues within the vanilla supply chain in Madagascar.
Core responsibilities:
The core responsibilities include:
• To research topics such as: stakeholders and decision-makers in the vanilla supply chain; advocacy/communication strategies; specific issues and possible solutions to address these in the vanilla industry in Madagascar
• To develop various research/advocacy/communications tools for the campaign
• To provide input for implementing the campaign strategy
• To provide administrative support to the relevant manager
• To give and receive feedback to/from his/her manager and other managers in the Madagascar Hotspot or other hotspots on the collaboration and managing style
Competences:
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills Able to work independently but are also a team player Result-oriented, quality-focused, eager to learn and also able to multi-task and to deliver results on time * Fluency in English and French is a prerequisite.
Knowledge & Experience:
Presently studying at or have graduated at a higher education institution (HBO) or university or have acquired equivalent levels of working and thinking through work experienceExperience in advocacy / campaigning, writing reports is an asset Familiarity with or knowledge of the food and beverage industry, certifications, NGOs, Madagascar, sustainability, smallholder farming, living income and/or international development is preferred * Affinity with Fairfood’s mission and cause is a must.

You will have the freedom and opportunities to continue developing yourself and achieve tangible results. We value our interns and volunteers to whom we offer reimbursement of home-work travel as well as lunch when they are in the office. Preferably you can start as soon as possible and working partly from home is a possibility. We do expect, however, that you will work a minimum of sixteen hours a week over a period of four months.
