Senior Project Manager (m/f) Climate Change Adaptation/ Vulnerability


As soon as possible our Berlin office is seeking an experienced

Senior Project Manager (m/f) Climate Change Adaptation/ Vulnerability (full or part-time)

Your spectrum of responsibilties
You want to actively participate in climate change? Working with adelphi you are supporting our national and international partners to adapt effectively to the impacts of climate change. Having proven professional experience and being methodically accomplished you contribute to the political governance of adaption measures and in shaping the company’s internal topic area. With commitment and intercultural sensitivity you lead partly interdisciplinary project teams and are responsible for the success of our key projects with clients such as GIZ or KfW.
  • You will independently conduct national and international projects in climate change adaptation and vulnerability, partly in cooperation with a small team under your leadership
  • You will supervise research and consultancy projects from concept design through to their successful implementation
  • You will advise our clients on political management of adaptation measures
  • You will identify, meet and engage with relevant stakeholders as a representative of adelphi
  • You will contribute to the acquisition of projects and thereby also to the strategic development of this topic area for adelphi
  • You will manage the internal development process for topics related to vulnerability assessments and coordinate the advancement of project portfolio for Latin America and Caribbean region

What we are looking for
  • An outstanding university degree in a relevant discipline preferably political science or geography, PhD of advantage
  • A minimum of ten years of professional experience working in the field of adaptation to climate change and vulnerability with a strong emphasis on development cooperation
  • Several years of international work experience preferably in Latin America, professional experience in Africa and/ or Asia is of advantage
  • An extensive network in the field of adaptation and vulnerability
  • Strong interdisciplinary skills:
    • a focus on social science
    • excellent knowledge of the conceptual and methodical principles which form the basis of vulnerability and adaptation (including risk and vulnerability assessment and
      ecosystem-based adaptation)
    • knowledge of quantitative methods (e.g. GIS/Statistics/Indicators/Climate Modelling)
    • good skills in political analysis
  • Experience in project management and coordination
  • Extensive experience in project acquisition and in preparing tenders (GIZ, KfW, EU, national development programmes)
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in German and English and Spanish, as well as a good command of Portuguese and/or French
  • Experience in planning and conducting (moderating) workshops
