Job description

  • This position will be within the GOM Geoscience Specialists’ Team
  • The specialists in this team support regional exploration work, lease sales, prospect maturation and evaluation, as well as, operated and non-operated exploration wells and appraisal well drilling
  • Statoil is looking for a technical specialist in the field of sedimentology and/or stratigraphy to join the team to assist in meeting the goals of our Gulf of Mexico Exploration organization

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • 4 year Bachelor’s degree
  • Extensive geological fieldwork experience
  • 5+ years oil & gas industry experience as a sedimentologist/stratigrapher
  • Additional desirable technical skills/experience:
  • Fieldwork-based PhD in sedimentology/stratigraphy
  • Gulf of Mexico Basin experience
  • 5 to 15+ years of oil & gas industry experience as a sedimentologist/stratigrapher
  • Experience in play mapping of reservoir - both reservoir presence and reservoir quality
  • Experience in detailed reservoir quality evaluation
  • Excellent ability to characterize sedimentary facies, identify depositional processes and interpret depositional environments from core, outcrop, standard LWD and wireline logs and work with other sedimentologists/stratigraphers, biostratigraphers and petrophysicists to provide an integrated solutions and interpretations
  • Experience in ‘operations sedimentology/stratigraphy’ with an oil & gas operator; including geological interpretation of LWD and Wireline logs, well to well correlations for actively drilling wells, picking rotary sidewall core locations, delineation of whole core acquisition intervals, quick-look sedimentary core logging, detailed whole core logging
  • Additionally, of high importance, is the ability to keep a clear business focus – making decisions, and technical recommendations with a business mindset and prioritizing work accordingly
