Programme Director (Global economy)

Wilton Park, an Executive Agency of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, is one of the world’s leading centres for high level conferences on international policy issues.

The Programme Director will develop, organise and chair senior level policy focused conferences on issues of international concern with an emphasis on global economic issues. They will:

  • prepare and run at least 7 conferences a year
  • liaise with relevant public and private sector organisations to develop topical and policy relevant events
  • generate revenue for the conference including sponsorship
  • identify appropriate conference participants
  • produce relevant materials for the website and social media in relation to each conference
  • chair the conferences
  • host throughout the conferences including receptions and dinners
  • write short reports on the conference discussion
  • contribute to strategic thinking of conference programmes with CEO and other Programme Directors

Experience/competencies

Detailed knowledge of international policy issues as they relate to at least 3 of the following areas:

  • Global trade issues
  • Financial markets and regulation
  • Sovereign wealth funds/sovereign debt
  • Emerging economic powers/BRICs etc
  • Corruption and organised crime in relation to business
  • Aid and trade
  • Global resources and implications of scarcity

Strong interpersonal skills; excellent administrative and self-organisation skills including time and project management; strategic thinker; ability to generate new ideas and translate these into implementation; ability to assimilate information quickly; strong written and oral communication skills in English; IT literate. Previous fundraising experience would be an advantage. Able to chair the conferences from a neutral standpoint to enable and encourage constructive participation.

The successful candidate will have a degree with first or second-class honours, or an equivalent or higher qualification, and experience of working on current affairs.

The salary range for this position is £43,000 - £55,782 and appointment would normally be made at the lower end of the scale. Applicants must have been resident in the UK for at least two of the previous five years.
