Employment and Legal Affairs Adviser British Chambers of Commerce
The British Chambers of Commerce seeks a driven, effective campaigner – with a background in employment, legal and regulatory affairs – to join its high-profile Policy and External Affairs team in Westminster.
Reporting to the Director of Policy and External Affairs, the post-holder will advocate for the interests of the Chamber Network's 100,000 members on matters related to employment law, business contract law, and the legal implications of regulation. S/he will act as a spokesperson on some issues, contribute directly to the achievement of the BCC's three year strategy, and uphold the organisation's reputation for incisive policy ideas and influential campaigning on behalf of businesses of all sizes and in all areas of the UK.
The role is based at the BCC’s office in St James’s Park, Westminster. Occasional travel to the BCC’s offices in Brussels and Coventry, as well as to Chambers of Commerce in the regions, will be required. We will consider applications from individuals who seek to work flexibly.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Essential qualities
- Prior experience of UK and EU employment and labour policies
- Demonstrable understanding of employment regulation, contract law and other issues affecting business growth potential
- Empathy for business, with understanding of real-world economic and trading conditions
- Strong, clear oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work flexibly and independently manage projects
- Willingness to help deliver sponsorship and revenue to support projects
Desirable qualities
- Previous work or academic background in law and economics
- Campaign and/or lobbying experience, either in business, Westminster, or Brussels
- Media/public speaking experience
- Existing stakeholder networks or contacts in relevant policy areas
- Prior sponsorship/fundraising, line management experience
