Food Chain Quality Biochemist / Physiologist - 2 posts
These positions provide the opportunity to develop a research career in the area of post-harvest biology. East Malling Research's contribution, combined with its nationally unique facilities, is at the forefront of research provision to understand the science behind ways of improving UK food security through reducing waste.
The successful applicants will be enthusiastic postdoctoral scientists with interests primarily linked with pre-harvest factors, such as, crop nutrition and environment and their impacts on post-harvest crop quality and shelf-life.
The individuals will have molecular skills which will be applied to the development of mechanistic approaches to understanding the events which determine crop development and the processes of maturation and senescence, particularly of climacteric and non-climacteric fruit. Knowledge of the physiological events and markers present during these events would be considered extremely valuable.
The successful candidates will be expected to innovate the current science programmes at EMR and actively seek their own research funding, whilst developing collaborative contacts both nationally and internationally, along with a peer-reviewed publication record.
The appointment will be in Pay Band 5/6, £25,536-35,629, with salary dependent on experience and relevant qualifications. 25 days annual leave plus 8 days public holidays, pleasant working environment and eligibility to join the USS pension scheme upon appointment.
