Research at the Department of Process Engineering predominantly supports four active areas, namely Separation Technology, Mineral Processing (including hydro¬metallurgy and pyro-metallurgy), Process Monitoring & Modelling and Bioengineering. In support of continuous growth, the Department has a need to appoint academics that can provide a strong contribution in especially Separation Technology and/or Mineral Processing and/or Process Modelling. Candidates shall have proven experience in subject disciplines such as thermodynamics and/or fluid mechanics and/or heat transfer and/or mineral processing.

Successful candidates will be expected to keep abreast of the latest academic content and practical applications in the academic areas where they will be deployed.

Duties:
• Providing academic guidance to and managing a specific research group;
• undergraduate and postgraduate teaching;
• conducting research and technology transfer to indus¬try and the broader community.

(The above will depend on the level of appointment.)

Requirements:
• Doctorate in Engineering (Chemical or Mineral Processing) and related research experience;
• clear practical experience in one or more of the abovementioned subject disciplines and a strong potential to manage a research group;
• compliant with criteria for registration as Professional Engineer;
• a good ability to communicate in both English and Afrikaans and to present lectures in a structured manner.

Recommendations:
• The ability to lecture all chemical engineering modules at undergraduate level within the relevant field of specialisation;
• the ability to lecture postgraduate modules within the personal field of specialisation;
• experience with postgraduate supervision and technical journal publications;
• a proven publication record and NRF rating (depending on the level of application).

Commencement of duties: 1 July 2012 or as per agreement
