Mechanical Maintenance Foreman

Reporting to the Plant Engineer: Diffuser at Pongola Mill, the successful candidate will be required to manage the mechanical maintenance of cane-receiving, cane-preparation, diffusion, and milling equipment. He/she will also provide technical input for servicing front-end equipment, and perform checks to ensure spares availability, as well as manage front-end mechanical maintenance staff, including tending to disciplinary matters, timekeeping and work attendance, and developing training needs. The appointee will also be responsible for compiling and controlling front-end mechanical maintenance budgets, ensuring SHE procedures and safety rules are understood and complied to, reporting any accidents/incidents immediately to the Plant Engineer/SHE Officer, as well as assisting with apprentice training and development.

Applicants will require an N3 qualification or equivalent in the Engineering field, plus a Trade Test Certificate as a Fitter, or Fitter and Turner. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a heavy engineering environment is essential and computer literacy is a must (Microsoft Office Suite). The ideal candidate has well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, a passion for engineering and excellence, and is physically fit with the ability to work in a hot and humid environment. Knowledge of the SAP system and the NOSA grading and safety system would be an advantage.
