Principal Research Scientist - Food Safety

CSIRO is seeking an internationally or nationally recognised leader in food safety and stability with a proven track record of developing research outcomes in support of risk analyses and the development of policy. This will give you a unique opportunity to really make an impact and re-establish a world class food safety and stability research area for Australia.

The role requires an exceptional candidate with the ability to work collaboratively across government, academia and industry, understanding the scientific challenges, drivers and opportunities in Food Safety and Stability. Within CSIRO the role will include the development and management of a major Food Safety and Stability research Stream which will also make a significant contribution to a newly proposed National Research Flagship on Biosecurity through a ‘one-health’ approach to diseases capable of transferring from animals to humans (zoonoses).

Specifically you will

• Contribute to the development of Theme science/strategy, and provide scientific leadership and direction
• In conjunction with key internal stakeholders, develop project proposals for external investment
• Identify, gain support for and exploit commercial opportunities and manage the associated intellectual property issues
• Maintain active national and/or international research collaborations and build productive relationships with clients and stakeholders

To be successful you will have :

• A track record in mobilising resources to achieve significant research outcomes and impact, including the transfer of research to industry, community, policy, etc
• Internationally/nationally recognised as a leader in at least one of the following research areas: microbiology, chemical/nanotechnology or risk analysis and assessment
• Proven success in leading and managing large, complex and multi- disciplinary teams
• Proven strategic science leadership and experience in working with the various sectors / agencies / end-users
