Senior Reservoir Engineer

  • Develop & lead major R&D projects up to $5m

The position:
We are seeking a dynamic individual to represent CSIRO's interests in the development of relationships and collaborative projects with the petroleum and geothermal industries and government agencies. The role will involve the initiation and leadership of major R&D projects in reservoir engineering related to oil & gas exploration and production, and geothermal development. You will also be responsible for the ongoing appraisal and direction of the team's new and existing projects.

Specifically you will:

  • provide technical input to projects and proposals, including appraisals of new and existing projects;
  • undertake collaborative project generation and planning;
  • build and maintain effective networks with industry, government, and research organisations with a view to securing funding and support (including development and negotiation of contracts);
  • understand industry needs and increase understanding of science potential;
  • apply existing technical expertise and knowledge to new and complex problems;
  • identify research objectives, prepare project proposals, conduct high quality research, project management and reporting;
  • publish and present research outcomes at conferences and stakeholder meetings;
  • guidance of strategic decision making to the Petroleum and Geothermal Research Leadership Team.

Salary: Negotiable (plus up to 15.4% superannuation / pension fund)

To be considered you will hold a relevant PhD or have equivalent industry experience, plus:

  • proven strategic leadership and experience in reservoir engineering or a related field;
  • an ability to successfully establish and deliver major collaborative partnerships with external stakeholders;
  • an ability to communicate technical concepts to a variety of audiences;
  • the competency to conceive, develop and implement integrated research &/or business plans in a complex environment;
  • a record of scientific and team leadership, including publication in international peer-reviewed journals.
