The Principal Resources Geologist applies and monitors systems for mineral resource estimation, definition, reconciliation and reporting, to ensure integrity and quality of mine-based geology.
The Principal Resources Geologist is accountable for production of mineral reserve statements compliant with JORC, complete resource modeling and estimation for Life of Mine Plan, maintain resource models necessary for mine engineering to develop optimum mine designs, monitor the engineering systems and business processes, identify and prioritise improvement opportunities and formulate alternatives and improvements to systems and methods and assist the engineering services manager with implementation of change management initiatives and other business improvement projects.
Key responsibilities are as follows:-
- Work with Senior Exploration Geologists on estimating long term resource generation prospects.
- Assist Geology Managers in the delivery of annual ore resource and statutory exploration reports.
- Work with Senior Long Term Planning Engineers and Senior Projects Engineer regarding ore body studies and resource optimisation.
- Develop models of metal grades, metal recoveries, resource tonnage and rock quality using exploration data, sampling assays, density data, geotechnical data and metallurgical tests. Update models regularly.
- Conduct ongoing liaison with Senior Geologists regarding all model inputs.
- Complete long term reconciliation of mining experience to reserves.
- Manage the integrity of geological databases and train Yilgarn One geologists in their use.
- Work with mining engineering team in analyses and explanation of technical and economic parameters to support production planning.
- Compile quality control report as backup for statements of mineral reserves.
- Understand and ensure data verification methods of all data utilised in modelling.
- Train and mentor other geologists in geological modelling and geo-statistics.
- Assist the Geology Managers and Engineering Services Manager in developing and improving Geology and Engineering systems to ensure accurate resource estimation and optimal ore extraction.
The successful applicant should have
- A recognised tertiary qualification in Geology, membership of the AusIMM/AIG is considered essential
- Extensive experience as a geologist in narrow vein resources.
- Expertise in the use of geological resource models and modeling processes and a sound knowledge of geo-statistics and the reconciliation process.
- Mining and geological modelling software packages.
- Strong customer service focus and the ability to diagnose problems and potential problems
The role is Perth-based with occasional travel expected within Australia (WA, NSW)
