Introduction

The U.S. Consulate General in Cape Town is seeking an individual for the position of Visa Assistant in the Consular Section.

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED

1. Successful completion of secondary school (Matric).
2. Three years of experience in work involving the application of relatively complex regulations and legal material.
3. Fluency in English and one other South African language (Level IV reading/writing/speaking).
4. Ability to accurately enter data and use biometric equipment.
5. Must have organizational and workload management skills, perform daily work with tact, patience, courtesy and discretion as much interaction with the public and important post contacts is required.

Job Specification

The incumbent is responsible for a wide range of Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) duties and also serves as American Citizens Services (ACS) back-up. The incumbent has the responsibility of reviewing and processing all types of NIV applications, trains new Locally Employed Staff (LES) and Eligible Family Member (EFM) staff and advises the Consular Chief and Vice-Consul about the daily workflow and incorporation of new procedures and equipment. Incumbent handles initial processing of all seasonal temporary work visas, VIP applicants and referrals from other post officers.
