Project/Proposal Summary: Zimbabwe aims to reduce maternal mortality to 300 deaths per live births and halt the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2015. A critical part of these goals will be to address mother-to-child transmission of HIV (MTCT).This five year second year PMTCT program will: a) provide technical and other assistance to the national level of the PMTCT Program; b) strengthen provision of clinical services for comprehensive PMTCT; c) strengthen pediatric HIV services; d) conduct operations research; and e) strengthen the continuum of care for mother, infant and family.

Position Summary: Responsible for developing materials for use in communities and clinics on the PMTCT continuum of care, preferred breastfeeding practices (exclusive BF), family planning, and stigma reduction per MOHCW guidelines. The BF materials will be developed with the MOHCW and Food and Nutrition Council, and evaluated in terms of effectiveness and impact within the overall Results Framework.

Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare (MOHCW) to develop results-based communications strategies around issues of interest in the PMTCT program. Specific focus will be required on issues of maternal nutrition, breastfeeding practices, family planning, and continuum of care themes for adults and children.
• Develop communications materials as funded that support the MOHCW PMTCT program goals and objectives.
• Work with M and E specialists to develop M and E tools and evaluation methodologies to determine effectiveness of materials to deliver on stated program objectives.
• Liaise with district and provincial level partners in the MOHCW to disseminate materials and assure their use in clinics and community centers.
• Provide practical guidance on behavior change and marketing as required to the project leadership and Ministry counterparts.
• Support increased collaboration between MOHCW and other ministry units through cross-cutting materials development and planning, i.e. MOHCW and Food and Nutrition Council.
• Contribute to operations research themes and research designs as requested.

Qualifications:

• Must have 5-7 years experience supporting health communications for HIV, SRH or MNCH related services.
• Candidates must also have experience specific to nutrition or health in Southern Africa.
• Training and behavior change and communication experience/exposure preferred.
• Family planning and reproductive health experience also preferred.
• Requires a public health, community development, sociology or related degree.
• Citizens of SADC member countries preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with NGO and government partners desired.
• Familiarity with USAID results-based programming frameworks desired.
