Civil Aviation Authority Careers June 2012

The SACAA, a key player in the international arena, seeks to promote and maintain a safe and secure civil aviation environment in South Africa. To meet its mandate for regulating and overseeing the functioning of the industry in an efficient, cost-effective, sustainable and customer friendly manner.

Inspector: Air Traffic Services

The incumbent will be responsible for safety regulation and oversight of ATSUs, ATOs, ATS personnel and airspace management.

Main outputs: • Planning and administration • Quality standards • Communications and safety promotion • Air traffic service licensing • Liaison.

Requirements: • Grade 12 with Maths and Science • Air Traffic Control licence (minimum of aerodrome and approach control ratings - radar and instructor's ratings, designated examiner an advantage) • Aviation and Auditor's Courses an advantage • 7 years’ operation experience • 3 year’s supervisory/training experience.

Inspector: Airlines and Airports Security

The incumbent will regulate and monitor Aviation Security standards and ensure compliance with the National Civil Aviation Security Plan (NASP) and promote Aviation Security as well as ensure that systems in place are in compliance with the NASP and other related Aviation Security Regulations.

Main outputs: • Oversight • Administration • Enforcement and compliance • Liaison and consultation • Amendments to regulations.

Requirements: • Relevant tertiary education and Aviation Security Courses • Diploma in Aviation Security (ideal) • 3 years’ aviation security • Driver's licence • Analytical and problem-solving skills • Research skills • Accuracy • Auditing and reporting skills.

Flight Operations Inspector Part 91

Main outputs: • Ramp inspections • Maintenance and acquisition of specialist skills • Approval of operations manuals • Communications and safety promotion • Proposals and revision of standards.

Requirements: • Hold or has held ATP/CPL with Instrument rating; single and multi-engine aircraft • ATP (ideal) • 3 years as a Pilot - 1500 hours in total • 3 years’ Part 135 or Part 121 operational experience • Driver's licence • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills • Reporting and planning skills • Attention to detail.
