Development Officer International Crisis Group New York

The International Crisis Group (Crisis Group) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation, with some 150 staff members on five continents, working through field-based analysis and high-level advocacy to prevent and resolve deadly conflict. We are currently seeking a highly-motivated and capable fundraiser who will be working out of our New York office.

Role: As a member of the Private Sector Initiatives team, the Development Officer is responsible for supporting a strategy to develop increased funding from individuals, corporations and family foundations, focusing primarily on relations with Crisis Group’s International Advisory Council and President’s Council. Additional responsibilities include management of corporate sponsorships, annual fund campaigns and the identification and cultivation of new private donors in keeping with Crisis Group’s fundraising goals and with a view to increasing its donor base internationally.

Responsibilities:

Steward a portfolio of prospects and donors at the $25,000 level and above, with particular attention to growing participation in the International Advisory Council;
Oversee communications with Crisis Group’s International Advisory Council and President’s Council; handle all Council-related correspondence, collateral and acknowledgements; and draft regular updates to keep members engaged and attract new participation;
Manage Council entitlements (including but not limited to event participation, Crisis Calls, Council trips and member attendance at Board meetings) and generate creative ideas for these and other Council activities;
Responsibility for on-boarding new contributors, facilitating timely membership renewals and maintaining up-to-date and accurate donor/prospect records;
Craft compelling appeals for support for multiple audiences, and manage Crisis Group’s mid-year and annual campaigns;
Regularly liaise with other development officers and the finance team to ensure proper reporting of incoming funds;
Supervise development interns, and handle other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years professional experience including 3-5 years in fundraising, with a strong preference for major gifts experience and previous exposure to the private sector and/or corporate giving;
Excellent writing, presentation and research skills, and superior attention to detail;
Interest in and knowledge of international affairs or related fields;
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
A high degree of initiative and demonstrated ability to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment;
Ability to accurately manage financial data;
Excellent computer skills required, including Raiser’s Edge, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Authorization to work in the U.S.
