Epidemiology/Health Informatics Specialist in Canada

The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH - http://www.wfh.org ) is an international not-for-profit organization that seeks to improve care for people with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. The WFH is looking for an experienced Epidemiology/Health Informatics Specialist with extensive background in analysis and development of data collection systems to upgrade its data collection system to track and document basic demographic and other data on people with inherited bleeding disorders globally.

Type of position: CONTRACTUAL – 6 months, renewable; full-time

Reporting to: Communications & Public Policy Director

Location: Montreal - downtown office

Start date: July 2012 ___________________________________________________________________________

o SUMMARY -

The Epidemiology/Health Informatics Specialist will work closely with WFH staff, the Data & Demographics Committee and others to:

1- identify and implement a new database structure for previously collected data to facilitate analysis;

2- develop an improved method of collecting annual survey data to increase efficiency and data validity.

Principal Responsibilities :

• Based on the data already collected, define the database structure most suited to the data and planned analyses • Lead the development and design of an improved data collection system • Identify performance measures to evaluate and improve program effectiveness • Develop an operational plan for the data collection program • Develop processes and methods for data collection • Determine the appropriate database structure and design based on identified data needs • Develop request for proposal and contract for data services, and identify software solution • Oversee the implementation, testing, and quality control of new data collection system • Develop tools to collect, standardize, and report information • Develop training materials and other documentation for the system • Carry out other tasks as requested by the Communications & Public Policy Director.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS -

• Master’s degree in public health (MPH) or a master’s of science degree in public health (MSPH), with a focus on epidemiology or health informatics

• Three (3 ) years’ experience designing and developing data collection systems or similar epidemiology work

• Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis software

• Ability to apply appropriate statistical methodologies

• Substantial experience in a health-related environment

• Mastery of English as the primary language of communication (oral & written); French or Spanish an advantage; international experience an asset.

Salary will be commensurate with background and experience.
