Instructor - Crop Sciences

Position

This is a 9-month instructor position supported by the OSU Agriculture and Natural Resource Program at Eastern Oregon University.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be expected to teach courses in support of the Range Ecology & Management, Crop & Soil Science, and Agricultural Sciences degree programs and other degree programs in the OSU Agriculture Program at Eastern Oregon University.

The incumbent will also provide other services to students to facilitate program operations, including time spent meeting with students regarding academic, curricular and career matters and coordinating internships.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with qualifications/experience. Additional summer support may be available through extramurally funded research, participating in research activities directed by other OSU faculty and/or on-line classes. Qualifications

The candidate must have a Master’s degree in Crop Sciences or related field. Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong desire to teach and mentor undergraduate students. The candidate must also demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity is preferred.

Position Location

The incumbent will be located on the Eastern Oregon University campus as part of the Eastern Oregon Agriculture & Natural Resource Program, La Grande, Oregon. EOANRP encompasses the OSU Ag Program at Eastern Oregon University and the Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center, an Agricultural Experiment Station of the College of Agricultural Sciences, Oregon State University.

La Grande and neighboring communities of Union, Cove, Imbler, North Powder and Summerville comprise most of Union Counties’ 20,000 residents. Each of these communities are within a 30 minute commute from La Grande and each offer their unique qualities and attributes. These communities are within the Grande Ronde Valley with the Blue Mountains to the west and Wallowa Mountains to the east. This area is noted for exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities including hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and skiing. Agricultural income in the Northeastern Oregon region is dominated by cow/calf/yearling cattle, wheat, alfalfa hay and other diversified farm crop production systems.
