Senior Associate – Economist (Policy Risk & Research)
£40,000-£70,000 (depending on skills) + benefits
Location: London

Use your regulatory expertise to help decide future financial services policy.

In this key, hands-on role, you’ll shape policy development within the Financial Services industry by applying your economic expertise to practical policy problems. It’s a chance to build on your knowledge of financial services markets, as you work on regulatory policy development across a range of areas.

Day-to-day, you’ll be advising on methodology and ensuring that economic policy analysis is of the highest quality. You’ll also give advice and training to policy makers and senior management on the application of microeconomics to the decisions they need to make. In short, this is a varied and challenging role where you’ll apply your knowledge to real problems. There’ll be the opportunity to contribute to the department’s programme of policy-relevant research and tackle more complex economic analysis on behalf of policy teams.

Your expertise means you’ll be central member of the team, responsible for representing the FSA externally. You must therefore be good with people and able to build strong working relationships with non-economists. You’ll combine excellent communication skills with good judgement and a proactive approach. Meanwhile, your experience in the regulatory environment means you’ll be ready to step straight into this absorbing role. Highly analytical, you have a postgraduate qualification (or equivalent) in Economics or a similar subject and have worked on Impact Assessments and microeconomics.

When the FSA separates into two areas later this year, you’ll be part of the Financial Conduct Authority, which has a wide remit, including competition. This is a positive transformation that involves no reduction of our current team.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is the independent body responsible for regulating the financial services industry in the UK. We have an extensive training programme and offer an attractive benefits package.
