The Energy Charter Secretariat, an international organisation located in Brussels, serves the Charter Conference and assists Member States in implementing the Energy Charter Treaty.

The Energy Charter Treaty, which entered into force in April 1998, involves 51 States, with broad coverage across Eurasia. The Treaty establishes a legal framework for international energy co-operation in the areas of investment, trade, transit and energy efficiency.

TRADE EXPERT

In the Directorate for Trade and Transit, the Expert will deal with energy trade falling under the scope of the Energy Charter Treaty provisions and the trade-related policy recommendations of the Energy Charter Conference. The task also includes focus on technology transfer involving energy efficiency, renewable energy resources and low carbon technologies, as well as the development of recommendations for intergovernmental energy policies.
The successful candidate is expected to be familiar with:
• Global energy policy matters and related international, regional and
national aspects
• Economic and regulatory aspects of national and global energy markets
• Matters characterising transition economies and emerging countries
• Trade related aspects of technology transfer
• Work of international conferences and organisations

The successful candidates will have a degree in economics, law or energy engineering, and at least five years of relevant professional experience. Oral and written communications skills will include an excellent knowledge of English with proven drafting ability. The capacity to work in a multinational environment, together with the ability to be a good team player, is important. Knowledge of other languages, particularly Russian, would be an asset. Both posts, with an attractive, international remuneration package, will be offered on the basis of a three-year, fixed-term contract with the possibility of renewal.
