VSO Country finance manager Papua New Guinea

The office

VSO has worked in Papua New Guinea for over 50 years. We are based in Madang on the Northern Coast of the country. Our current strategy is focused on strengthening access and quality of services in the education and health sectors and we currently have about 25 international volunteers working around the country. We have a strong track record in fundraising and developing corporate partnerships and consequently we need an experienced Country Finance Manager to build the capacity of our existing national team.

The job

The job will involve developing a deep understanding of VSO’s financial systems and procedures, being responsible for financial management in the Country Office and crucially building the capacity of the finance and programme teams over the duration of the contract. A successor for the Country Finance Manager role has been identified and this person will be the primary counterpart for this job. You’ll be a key part of our Country Office Management Team and have the opportunity to take charge of the finance function across all of the programmatic partners.

You

You’ll be a fully qualified accountant with strong communication skills and an inspirational leader with experience of managing small teams. You’ll probably come from the not-for-profit sector and bring your experience of grant management and reporting. Of course, you’ll have a strong eye for detail, but you can also see the big picture by thinking strategically and have previously led projects. You will have excellent training and coaching skills and be able to work in a way that develops confidence and skills in those around you and encourages growth and professional development.

Us

We’ve been working through volunteers to fight poverty for more than 50 years. In fact, we’re the leading organisation in the field. We work in almost 50 countries and we’re constantly exploring new ways to use the time, energy and skills of people to make a difference. Even if you know us, it’s worth checking out our website – we might not be the organisation you think we are.
