Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking an Associate to provide administrative and clerical assistance to its Health and Human Rights (“HHR”) Division. The position reports to the Director of the HHR Division.  HRW anticipates that the successful candidate will take up this position in early or mid-March 2012.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintaining extensive files, contact lists and databases;
2. Maintaining communication among HRW's domestic and international offices and providing substantive, logistical and administrative assistance to field offices;
3. Retrieving and responding to requests for information;
4. Preparing, formatting and distributing documents such as press releases, reports, tables, charts, briefing papers, op‑eds, publications and web content;
5. Assisting with research, electronic clipping, wires and translations;
6. Preparing for and taking minutes at meetings;
7. Assisting with advisory committee matters, special events, and hiring and training processes;
8. Drafting and editing correspondence and other documents;
9. Assisting with travel arrangements;
10. Recruiting and coordinating interns;
11. Recording departmental finances;
12. Word processing, photocopying, filing, faxing, answering phones, processing incoming mail;
13. Carrying out other duties as required
Qualifications:
Education:  Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
Experience:  Previous work, internship, or volunteer experience in international health and human rights is highly desirable.
Related Skills and Knowledge: 
1. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
2. Superior organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills are essential.
3. Ability to work well under pressure, while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously, is essential.
4. Prior office/administration experience ishighly desirable.
5. Ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team. 
6. Strong interest in international health and human rights is highly desirable.
7. Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications.
Other: Applicants for this position must possess current United States work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.
Salary and Benefits:  Salary range starts at $40,310.  Human Rights Watch offers comprehensive employer-paid benefits, including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, an outstanding retirement savings plan and twenty (20) days vacation per year.
