Scientific Systems Developer/Programmer, Optometry
Completes the design, development, documentation, and maintenance of custom software and/or hardware to collect, process, analyze, and store research data. Provides advice to principal investigators on experiment design and analysis, instruction in use of programs, data analysis, and troubleshooting, and develops real-time control of several electronic devices for process control and data collection that must be tightly synchronized. Develops analysis software for large sets of vision data (incorporating both time and frequency domain manipulations) that may be 1-dimensional (e.g., electroencephalogram recordings), 2-dimensional (e.g., images of the eye) or 3-dimensional (e.g., multiple-plane imaging of the retina using optical coherence tomography). |
Qualifications: Review your qualifications prior to applying to ensure that you meet the minimum qualifications for the position. Resume and cover letter required. REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, physics, psychology, neuroscience, or related field and two years software/hardware development that includes software coding utilizing languages such as Visual Basic, Matlab and C++ for the PC. Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Experience with Windows and Macintosh operating systems, C++, C, Matlab, Visual Basic, Python, and IDL; strong communication skills; ability to work well with others; and experience with computers of all sorts, especially high-end workstations to control laboratory instruments. Preferred: Experience with programming electronic cameras and other I/O interface devices. Other: This position is funded by federal industrial grants.
