Job Purpose |
Define
the Etihad Airways Occupational Safety and Health standards that align
with the local and applicable international standards. To communicate
the standards and continually ensure functional departments throughout
the global network maintain their defined level of compliance as defined
and required in accordance with the Etihad Occupational Safety and
Health Management System (OSHMS), a mandatory and statutory requirement
pursuant to Abu Dhabi EHS Regulatory Framework, UAE Federal Law and
international safety related regulations.
This
role will manage the strategic specific and operational aspects of the
OHSMS by conducting and monitoring compliance through active, passive
and intrusive audits, conducting investigations and surveillance as
required.
This
role acts as the focal point for compliance of the OSHMS briefing Etihad
Executive and regulatory authorities on all operational safety and
health issues.To
build cordial relationships with statutory bodies and as the management
representative, liaise with competent authorities to ensure that Etihad
Airways interests are best represented and protected during any
incident,

Responsibilities |
This role will be responsible for:
- Establishing,
leading and directing the Safety Management System, inclusive of
defining the minimum Etihad standards, development of policy and
procedures, ensure compliance as required by all statutory authorities
and internal quality expectation on the global network including
management and advice for outstations.
- Identifying
the risks associated with occupational safety, health and occupational
environment issues for all employees and develop action plans and
strategies to mitigate the risks.
- Providing
leadership and drives the implementation of occupational safety and
health initiatives and programs (e.g. Zero Harm Initiative, Core EHS
Management System) to bring cohesiveness and synergy to the company's
approach to occupational safety and health throughout the network.
- Providing
reports to the executive and senior management that analyze the
strategic performance of the safety management system to identify the
trends, problem areas of compliance and escalate issues to the executive
as required in accordance with the established process.
- Where
there is an imminent danger or a serious hazard exists, take the
necessary action to prevent any injury to any employee or to the public
or incident up to an including ceasing an activity.
- Reviewing risk assessments, in cooperation with functional department management, mitigating
strategies and analysis of potential hazards to develop methods to
reduce incidents in line with required KPIs as mandated by the
regulatory authorities.
- Leading
the internal audit function of all departments and contractors across
the network, identifying compliance levels and ensuring corrective and
preventive actions to ensure a proper environment for the health and
safety of the organizations staff and guests.
- Investigate,
analyze and review accidents or near misses within the organization,
developing corrective or preventive measures to prevent reoccurrences
and develops and ensures regular emergency responses for health and
safety related issues..
- Coordinates
the activities of subordinate staff by directing and guiding general
safety and management guidance and provides interpretation of compliance
requirements
- Provides
technical and specialist knowledge during projects to ensure regular
communication and compliance with fire and life safety standards and
ensures regular dissemination of any new amendments to ensure all
employees are properly informed about the working, environmental and
safety policies of the organization.
- Actively
engage with VP, SVP and Chiefs to facilitate the effective
implementation of systems and processes poviding advice and influence by
acting as the OSH technical reference point for Senior Management on
all safety and health related issues.
- Provide Safety governance & oversight to all business units
- Ensure
the effective achievement of the OSH functional objectives through
leadership of the production, maintenance & associated function –
setting departmental & individual objectives, managing performance,
developing & motivating staff.
- Manages
& leads property risk audit surveys (review locations to identify
risks to assets from fire, natural & man made hazards & other
potential asset damage or business interruption risk) compile reports to
insurers & the company with prioritised recommendations for risk
improvement.
- As
the management representative for OSH, interfaces with relevant
government agencies and regulatory authorities to develop and maintain
effective relationships with the heads of statutory / regulatory bodies
at base and internationally and act as the Principle liaison between the
airline & regulatory bodies locally & internationally impacting
on OSH; ensures Etihads interests are best represented and protected.

Requirements | Qualification & Education:

Educated
to Advanced Diploma or Degree level in Occupational Safety, Emergency
Management, Investigation, Risk Management, Injury Management, Workplace
Inspection and Statutory Compliance. A Business Management/HR diploma
is desirable.
Experience:
-
Minimum of 12 years in occupational health and safety.

Extensive
underpinning skill, knowledge and experience carrying out audits and
accidents/incident investigations and producing subsequent reports are
essential.

At least 5 years of management experience leading the occupational health and safety is required
Training & Knowledge:
-
Comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety Management Systems
-
Working knowledge of COSHH assessments, health and safety management system, safety inspections, risk assessments.

Formal training in fire safety, statutory compliance and OHS law
-
Formal training in HAZID/HAZOP processes
-
Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel & Powerpoint
-
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-
Fluency in English language, Arabic language will be an advantage

Knowledge on international environmental legislations and best practices pertaining to the airline industry
