Senior Risk Officer at IFC - International Finance Corporation



IFC’s Market & Counterparty Risk Management Unit (CIRMA), which sits within the Corporate Integrated Risk (CIR) department, is responsible for measuring, managing and monitoring market, counterparty, credit and liquidity risks in IFC’s portfolio.

The market risk unit focuses on measuring, analyzing, and reporting on IFC’s market risk exposures. The unit is conducting a search for a (Senior) Risk Officer to join a small dynamic team to support:

1. Expanding market risk capabilities to different parts of IFC’s balance sheet,

2. Communicating with internal senior management and external counterparties, including auditors and credit rating agencies, and

3. Providing strategic insights and additional reporting on market risk to senior management on market risk trends.

Duties and Accountabilities

• Play a senior role in maintaining close contact and liaison with internal clients in discussing and explaining portfolio and security-specific risk.

• Candidate will take technical and complex issues and explain them in simple and straightforward terms in communicating with internal clients and senior management.

• Play a leading role in developing and maintaining close contact and liaising with external counterparties, including auditors and credit rating agencies on regular audits and specific requests.

• Monitor macro themes in market risk factors, security-specific risks and securities markets developments. In this regard the candidate is expected to have a deep knowledge of fixed income markets as well as possess strong judgment of markets relative to theoretical models.

• Play a leading role in reviewing the calculation of risk measures and risk reports to ensure quality and completeness. Communicate important aspects of the results and their risk impact to senior management across IFC.

• Keep abreast of industry and regulatory best practice and technology developments to improve the quality of the team’s functions;

• Contribute to monthly and annual reporting on IFC’s market risk.

• Mentor, guide, and train junior team members.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Advanced degree, preferably in finance, mathematics or engineering and minimum of 8 years relevant work experience in a specialized field such as portfolio management, risk management, financial modeling and/or quantitative research.

• Prior experience of working with credit rating agencies and auditors on market and credit risk, as well as valuation and risk of fixed income instruments is required.

• Detailed knowledge of credit and market risk measurement, including value at risk, stress testing and scenario analysis, structured products including ABS, CMBS and RMBS markets, as well as prior in-depth and disciplined analytical experience of fixed income instruments are required.

• Previous work experience in either asset management related activities, such as portfolio management and securities trading, or previous work experience in a large financial organization in a role of front office risk manager or a market risk strategist are strong pluses.

• Outstanding knowledge and experience of financial markets, financial instruments (in cash and derivatives) as well as of the macroeconomics of large currency zones, USD, Yen, Euro, and possibly of smaller ones GBP, AUD and others are desirable.

• Strong analytical ability as demonstrated by prior experience in strategic research and/or academia.

• Demonstrated professional leadership skill, as well as a strong interest and ability to undertake initiatives.

• Strong team player with ability to collaborate with colleagues within and across departments.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex and technical issues in simple and straightforward terms.
