Amnesty International Senior Director of Global Operations

For fifty years, Amnesty International has campaigned for human rights wherever justice, freedom and truth are denied. We’ve reshaped policies, challenged governments and taken corporations to task. And in doing so, we’ve changed thousands of lives for the better. In order to build on our legacy and make our work ever more effective, we are committed to ensuring equal and effective representation around the world by shifting our centre of gravity to the global South and East. To do this, we are creating operational regional hubs across the global South and East that will be supported by our London office.
To take a lead role in this sea-change in Amnesty International’s operating structure we are seeking a Senior Director of Global Operations (SDGO). As part of the International Secretariat’s Senior Leadership Team and reporting to the Secretary General, the SDGO will take overall responsibility for the creation and management of Amnesty’s regional global hubs. You will oversee the initial recruitment of, and offer on-going support to, the regional Hub Directors, as well as directing and coordinating all regional operations – supporting the planning and execution of regional work, motivating staff and management, and making sure stakeholders are engaged and delivering to objectives throughout the regions. It also means creating, implementing and applying policies and strategies – ensuring a clear and cohesive direction for the Amnesty International Hub office operations.
You will have extensive experience in managing cross-functional delivery in a multi-site global and high-profile organization, preferably in a mission led environment. In addition, you will have proven skill in the integration of activity with proven ability in management of organizational change alongside deep working knowledge of operating in the countries of the Global South. A charismatic and proactive individual, you will have the gravitas and credibility to assist one of the world’s most well-recognised and impactful campaigners for human rights in aligning itself to be ever more representational and effective.
The role will be based in London with a competitive salary package depending on experience.
