Clean Air Asia Executive Director

The Board of Trustees of Clean Air Asia seeks a social entrepreneur and visionary individual to lead Asia’s premier organization and network partnership on air quality, transport and climate and provide strategic and operational leadership of the Organization from 1st July 2013.

Clean Air Asia was established as a leading multi-stakeholder initiative by the Asian Development Bank, World Bank and USAID in 2001, and operates since 2007 as an independent non-profit organization. Clean Air Asia has
offices in Manila, Beijing and Delhi, networks in eight Asian countries (China, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam) and is a UN recognized partnership of almost 250 organizations in Asia and
worldwide.

Together with a wide range of partners from cities and governments in the Asian region as well as NGOs and international organizations, Clean Air Asia acts to improve the knowledge base on air quality, develop tools to manage air quality and take a lead role in initiating and facilitating policy discussions on air quality management and climate change mitigation in the Asian region.

In the coming years, Clean Air Asia will continue and enhance its work on implementation of pathways that enable developing Asia to address its developmental needs without compromising the quality of its environment,
especially air quality. Partnering with other organizations in the government, NGO, academic and private sectors is a key part of Clean Air Asia’s strategy.

The Executive Director reports, through its Chairman, to an international nine person Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced professional with:
- Dynamic and strategic leadership capabilities and the ability to define and execute goals to realize the mission of Clean Air Asia;
- Clear understanding of global and regional environment and development issues with an emphasis on air quality and climate change in Asia;
- Ability to inspire, lead and motivate the staff and project a strong presence to Clean Air Asia’s external constituencies, including government officials, stakeholders and sponsors;
- Proven track record in resource mobilization and partnership building and affinity with the challenges facing non-profit organizations;
- Experience in developing and overseeing large scale projects funded by international organizations and foundations;
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English, experience working in multi-cultural settings, preferably in Asia; and
- Advanced university degree preferably in a relevant subject area, e.g. environmental sciences and/or extensive professional experience at a senior level preferably in air quality management or related field.

Appointment for this position is for a period of three years, renewable for additional term(s), with a probationary period of 3 months. Salary and benefits are competitive for non-profit organizations. Further information about
