Job Description
The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition is a global partnership of more than 200 public, private, and non-governmental organizations dedicated to ensuring that all people in low- and middle-income countries can choose, obtain, and use affordable, high-quality supplies and related services to ensure their better reproductive health. The Coalition’s Secretariat, which is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, includes full- and part-time staff located around the word.  The Secretariat is managed by PATH, an international, nonprofit organization that helps communities break longstanding cycles of poor health.

The Coalition is seeking a Brussels-based Deputy Director to manage the activities of the Secretariat, deepen available expertise within the office, and, in particular, oversee the Secretariat’s internal operations. In 2013 the Coalition Secretariat staff will double in size, expand technically and geographically, and direct work in new focus areas.  Likewise the Coalition’s three Working Groups will reinforce efforts to work towards common objectives and outcomes. The new Deputy Director will play a key role in managing the transition and building the approaches and systems needed to ensure sustained progress.  He/she must ensure that the multi-centre, multi-lingual, multi-sector Secretariat functions efficiently and effectively; while at the same time responds to and supports the rapidly evolving needs of the broader Coalition.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day management of Secretariat operations.
  • Develop and strengthen Secretariat management and communication systems to support its rapid growth and shifting responsibilities.
  • Ensure timely completion of Secretariat activities and work plans.
  • Maintain high levels of staff engagement and motivation through thorough performance management and professional development.
  • Recruit, hire, and manage consultants as needed.
  • Monitor and report on overall progress towards Coalition strategic objectives and milestones.
  • Lead process for updating policies on governance and operations.
  • Develop funding proposals as required.
  • Represent the Coalition at external events and public forums.
  • Oversee planning and content of Coalition’s annual membership meetings.

  • Model clear, open, and collaborative communication approaches in a rapidly growing Secretariat and Coalition environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with partners in a multi-site, team-based organizational structure.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal presentation skills.
Required Experience
An advanced degree, or more, in public policy, international development, global health, or documented equivalent experience in related field is required. A minimum of 10 years of experience in global reproductive health and family planning, health, development or related field is also required. Must have excellent English and ideally French and Spanish language skills.  Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally up to 30 percent.
