Head of Engineering - Americas

Engineering management and leadership within Aggreko Americas is a key capability to ensure that design aspects of a project and local business comply with regulatory and company standards through fit for purpose design and by making optimum and safe use of the group fleet resources. The position is located Houston and Panama.

A key aspect of this role is to work closely with the project team responsible for the mobilization of various power generation sites to ensure that all necessary support is given during the project lifecycle. It is also a key position within the both Group and Regional organisations.

Job Accountabilities/Key Responsibilities
  • To work within a framework of Delegated Authority. This delegated authority forms the connection of Global Standards and Compliance with Regional execution. The incumbent is responsible to oversee the adherence and implementation of the respective standards and processes.
  • Diligently manage and regulate engineering activity in the region within the Group Engineering established engineering standards, procedures and governance to limit technical risks to the Aggreko business
  • Advise marketing and sales personnel on technical component of level 1 and 2 bids and prepare where necessary, the relevant technical documents
  • Verify project engineering requirements by visiting potential job sites, meeting with the client’s technical staff and preparing project technical specifications (electrical, civil, fuel and control & metering).
  • Review of project designs produced by the engineering design group to ensure design packages meet project technical and customer needs.
  • Working with the Group Operations and Technology team as well as the Americas MD’s and others to develop area engineering capability.
  • Manage and coordinate technical performance across The Americas and ensure optimized utilization
  • Ensure Aggreko & managed client equipment is operated within design parameters & safety requirements
  • Monitor maintenance procedures and instigate audits
  • Produce monthly and other specified periodic reports for Group Engineering, the IPP America’s MD’s and Group Boards
  • Coordinate with the Group Engineering to agree design parameters for new fleet
  • Responsible for engineering governance across regional operations working closely with the regional area management team with delegated authority from the Group Head of Engineering
  • Engage and participate in QHSE audits as agreed by Head of QHSE and IPP America’s MD – with the view of not performing, or permitting performance of unsafe work practices

Person Specification/Job Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, with a chartered membership in a relevant Engineering discipline and able to hold delegated authority.
  • 10+ years’ experience in an appropriate Engineering position.
  • Engineering experience in key markets of Latin America, North America, and understanding of UK Standards.
  • Experience of successfully leading / implementing a significant performance improvement programme which resulted in improved efficiency and measurable results e.g. Six Sigma, TQM.
  • Proven ability working in a project management environment within a global and regional structure.
  • Experience in leading teams of more than 10, in multiple locations within a project managed business, under a group and regional structure.
  • Proven ability to recognize the importance of a strong HS&E focus in design and execution.
  • Experience of working globally, particularly with multi-cultural work forces.
  • Good stamina for travel and a willingness to show commitment to a 24x7 business.
  • Ability to take decisions autonomously within the Group Engineering established governance framework, to act decisively, even when faced with ambiguity.
  • Willing to lead from the front and engage with operational issues and with people at all levels in the company.
  • Ability to cope with international cultures with few boundaries.
  • Preference will be for competence in electrical power engineering but also within a civil engineering project environment would be advantageous.
