BBC Media Action is largely funded by external grants, mainly from the UK's Department for International Development (DFID), the European Union, UN agencies and charitable foundations. Our Africa team manages a range of country-specific projects: countries include Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, Ethiopia and Somalia

 

About the role

 

Reporting to the Country Director, you’ll be responsible for the overall management and delivery of projects, using media power to tackle issues of health, governance and resilience. Therefore, you’ll ensure the agreed targets and objectives (including financial and editorial) of country projects are met, whilst maintaining quality and cohesion of outputs. Within this, you’ll be managing project managers, as well as radio and possibly TV and online teams who will be producing content for the projects. You may also represent us in country to key stakeholders. In this regard, you’ll be instrumental in forging effective relationships and partnerships with parties including broadcasters, NGOs, international development agencies and others. 

 

About you

 

We need your senior level experience in large-scale project creation and management in a developing country context, preferably in Africa. You’ll therefore show a proven record in international development and in this regard, experience of using the media and working within governance, health or resilience sectors would be highly advantageous. Alongside your excellent budgeting and financial management experience, you’ll also show a proven track record in donor reporting. In addition, you’ll bring experience of managing local and international staff, demonstrating experience in developing and leading on systems and processes.
