Bank of England’s Deputy Governor for Financial Stability

c £260,000 plus pension • Five year term, renewable once • London
The Bank of England is the central bank of the United Kingdom, and exists to ensure monetary stability and financial stability. Candidates are sought for the role of Deputy Governor, Financial Stability. This appointment is made by Her Majesty, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
The new Deputy Governor will lead the Bank of England’s work on financial stability and will be directly or indirectly responsible for more than 600 staff. He or she will sit on the Financial Policy Committee (and chair it in the Governor’s absence), the Monetary Policy Committee, the Board of the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Court of the Bank of England. He or she will also represent the Bank of England on a number of national and international bodies.
This is a high profile and influential role at a time of significant change – both within the Bank and throughout global and domestic financial markets.
The new Deputy Governor will play a key role in leading the Bank through the continued implementation of reforms to the regulatory system, including the Bank’s new responsibilities for prudential regulation and systemic stability.
Applicants must demonstrate strong leadership, management and policy
skills and will have an advanced understanding of financial markets and
good economic knowledge.
This may have been gained at a very senior level within leading financial institutions and/or in public sector or regulatory roles with a close focus on financial services. He or she will be a strong communicator, have good interpersonal skills and will be a person of undisputed integrity and standing.
Applicants will need the ability to develop and execute new policies in a fast-moving environment, and understand the workings of government and both national and international regulatory systems.
