Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Associate Director of Gift Planning. The position reports to a Departmental Deputy Director in the Development and Outreach Department.
Responsibilities:
1. Serve as a resource for gift planning solicitation strategies;
2. Create and implement a comprehensive marketing plan for gift planning in close collaboration with the Marketing Division;
3. Educate donors and serve as the institutional resource for gift planning opportunities;
4. Direct production of gift planning collateral materials for the overall development program;
5. Produce proposals for use in gift planning and engage the City Directors and other development and finance leaders as needed;
6. Coordinate with the Finance Division, bank trust departments, and other financial entities regarding the management of new and existing gifts and funds;
7. Set appropriate annual goals for new gift planning commitments and new planned gift donors in conjunction with the Senior Director, Global Campaign and other development leaders;
8. Serve as primary contact with the institutional auditors with regard to planned gifts;
9. Perform other tasks as may be required.
Qualifications:
Education:  A bachelor’s degree required.  An advanced degree is preferred.
Experience:  Minimum five to seven years of work experience in development/fundraising or a related field is required.  Experience in law, finance or insurance is preferred.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
1. A proven history of securing planned gifts.
2. Considerable knowledge of gift planning and general fundraising is required.
3. Proficiency in planned gift calculations and gift planning proposal writing is required.
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
5. The ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple constituencies simultaneously, working effectively toward deadlines is required.
6. Ability to assimilate and convey HRW's conceptually complicated goals and strategies in a succinct and compelling way is required.
7. Familiarity with international human rights and the philanthropic community is required.
8. Creativity, initiative, follow-through and excellent organizational skills are required.
9. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with external partners are required.
10. Familiarity with fundraising databases, particularly Raiser’s Edge is required.
11. Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of HRW are highly desirable.
12. Experience working in an international organization is highly desirable.
13. Experience in an advocacy organization is highly desirable.
