Education Advisor

The U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg is seeking an individual for the position of Education Advisor in the Public Affairs Section (PAS).

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications Required:  NOTE:  ALL APPLICANTS MUST ADDRESS EACH SELECTION CRITERION DETAILED BELOW WITH SPECIFIC AND COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION SUPPORTING EACH ITEM.   Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED 1.      Education:  Undergraduate degree in education, language, international affairs, information science, social sciences, humanities, business or a related      field is required.2.     Experience:  Two years progressive experience in advising international students or professionals or working in university administration, program      planning and management is required. 3.      Language:  -          English level IV – (fluent) in writing, reading and speaking is required. (This will be tested).4.      Knowledge:  -          Sound knowledge of the U.S. and S.A. education systems is required.-          Detailed knowledge of secondary and tertiary education systems and processes is required.5.      Skills and Abilities:  -          Ability to be confident in public speaking and presentation skills is required.-          Ability to write proposals and reports is required.Proficiency in Office Suite and internet research skills is required. -     Proficiency in Office Suite and internet research skill is required.

Basic Function of Position: The incumbent provides unbiased information on higher education in the U.S. and education advising services to students, scholars and professionals seeking to study in the U.S.  Plan, coordinates and implement education and youth outreach programs using student advising as a medium to contact youth.
