About the Position:

The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC) is seeking an exceptional candidate for a rare opportunity to join its dynamic and growing team as Chief Operating Officer (COO). RCRC’s mission is to be the leading religious voice for reproductive justice in the United States. The successful candidate will oversee operations, planning and programs, helping to integrate all of the work of the organization into a cohesive, organized strategy. The COO will directly supervise a team of 7, supporting each individual's professional development and team growth. This person will report to and work very closely with the CEO, strengthening the internal foundation that supports the CEO's significant external responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader, with an understanding of strengths-based organizational culture, passionate about RCRC's mission, and committed to culture change work. S/he will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have significant knowledge of fundraising, engagement and movement-building strategies, as well as experience in social advocacy from the perspective of diverse faith groups. Primary Responsibilities:

Organizational Leadership & Staff Management
  • Engages in strategic planning
  • Lead internal implementation and evaluation processes around new ideas and organizational strategies
  • Directly supervise Public Policy Director, Director of Fund Development, Director of Field Operations, Director of Communications, Director of Information Technology, Bookkeeper and Administrative Assistant
  • Lead performance evaluation process, work with staff to create regular reports on their areas of responsibility, and direct staff towards appropriate professional development opportunities
  • Provide coaching, strategic guidance and critical feedback to staff, with a practice of mentorship, respecting the skills, strengths, contributions and challenges of individual team members
  • Collaborate with staff to cultivate, develop and mobilize the RCRC network - stakeholders, volunteers, donors, interns, etc.
  • Work with CEO and staff to report on organizational achievements and challenges to the Board of Directors
Planning, Strategy and Communications
  • Ensures the work of the organization fulfills the 4-year strategic plan
  • Cultivate and steward the RCRC brand, ensuring consistent communications across the organization
  • Manage organizational innovation creatively and with rigor
  • Direct and supervise large projects and organizational initiatives, with many moving parts
  • Manage organizational calendar and lead quarterly and annual planning processes
  • Work with staff to integrate assessment and evaluation into all organizational programs and initiatives
Administration & Operations
  • Manage all administrative and operational functions of organization including finance, human resources, facilities, board relations and program logistics and contract management
  • Develop and manage annual budget in collaboration with CEO and Board of Directors
  • Manage hiring processes, staff benefits and personnel policies
  • Work closely with Bookkeeper, Director of Information Technology, and Administrative Assistant to ensure that all operational functions run smoothly

Selection Criteria:

  • At least 8-10 years professional experience in administration, strategy and organizational leadership in a growing nonprofit or social enterprise
  • Experience in interfaith dialogue, social justice advocacy and the reproductive justice community
  • Experience leading and managing staff in an innovative, entrepreneurial culture
  • Experience in program development and implementation
  • Experience working with a CEO who has a significant externally-facing role a plus
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate build trust with established team
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple and sometimes competing tasks and satisfactorily meet deadlines and desired outcomes
  • Proven track record of success in program/project implementation, fundraising execution, donor engagement and management
  • Commitment to program evaluation and excellence in service delivery
  • An enterprising, can-do, confident attitude; not easily overwhelmed
  • Creative and independent problem-solving and multi-tasking skills; solution-oriented approach to opportunities and challenges
  • Strong people and project management and follow-through
  • Tech savvy and familiarity with donor management/engagement systems and online social networks
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in work
  • Ability to fulfill responsibilities with high standards in customer service in support of RCRC’s core values and mission
  • Bachelor's degree required
