Senior Fellow/Research Fellow – Forests And Climate Change
The Center for Global Development, an independent, non-partisan research organization in Washington, DC, seeks a dynamic Senior Fellow or Research Fellow to undertake independent research related to climate change, forests, including REDD+, land use and environmental economics.
As part of its Climate Change and Development program, the Center is launching a program to support a major increase in global financial flows and incentives for forest conservation and to promote results-based approaches.
The Fellow’s responsibilities include:
- Defining and undertaking creative, policy-oriented research, both her/his own original research and as part of the Center’s existing research program
- Developing a research agenda on forests and climate change, land use/land use change and the design of innovative public and private financing and incentive instruments and results-based approaches for forest conservation
- Publishing books, articles, working papers, policy briefs, blogs and short commentaries targeted to policy makers, academics and the general public
- Tracking policy developments in relevant areas
- Engaging in related policy outreach activities and speaking engagements
- Participating in the design of expert group consultations and working groups
- Supervising and providing mentorship for a research assistant
- Participating in in-house research reviews
- Work with our in-house team to seek funding and prepare grant proposals
The Fellow is expected to have the following qualifications:
- A doctoral degree in economics or a related discipline
- At least 8-10 years (3-5 years for Research Fellow) of relevant experience in a research environment or policy organization
- A record of applying rigorous research methods to real-world problems to identify practical and action-oriented solutions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including both long and short writing styles
- Ability to work independently within a small, closely-knit organization and to contribute to the development of new initiatives
- In-country experience and/or experience in a government agency or operational development organization desirable
- A passion for CGD’s mission
- Collegiality and a good sense of humor are essential
