Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a temporary Foundation Relations Associate to provide administrative and clerical assistance to the Program and Foundations Unit of the Development and Outreach Department. The position supports the Senior Director of Foundation Relations and eight other members of the Program and Foundations Unit.
Responsibilities:
1. Preparing proposal and report packages with relevant attachments;
2. Liaising with Finance Division to provide donors with budgets and financial reports;
3. Updating Raiser’s Edge database records with deadlines, reporting requirements, pledges, call reports, and other grants-related data;
4. Drafting acknowledgment letters and other correspondence;
5. Processing grant letters;
6. Conducting prospect research;
7. Scheduling internal and external meetings, booking conference lines and rooms for meetings;
8. Arranging travel, preparing expense reports, filing, printing, preparing mailings, and other administrative duties;
9. Proofing proposals, reports, and other written materials;
10. Retrieving and responding to internal and external requests for information;
11. Overseeing the recruiting, hiring, and training of interns as necessary; and
12. Carrying out other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor’s degree, preferably in international relations, journalism, social sciences, English is required.
Experience:Minimum 1 year of relevant, full-time work experience is highly desirable.

1. Excellent written communication skills in English are required.
2. Strong interpersonal skills are required.
3. Strong organizational skills are required.
4. Meticulous attention to detail is required.
5. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is required.
6. Ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team is required.
7. Prospect research or other research experience is highly desirable.
8. Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and donor databases is highly desirable.
9. Prior office/administration experience is highly desirable.
10. Strong interest in international human rights is highly desirable.
Other: Applicants for this position must possess current US work authorization valid for the duration of the contract.
Contract Duration: Initial fixed-term contract through December 2013. The position may transition into a regular staff position if long-term funding becomes available.
Salary and Benefits: Annualized salary range starts at $41,519. Human Rights Watch offers comprehensive employer-paid benefits, including medical, dental, and life insurance, a retirement savings plan and twenty (20) days vacation per year (pro rata).
