Computer Management Assistant

The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking an individual for the position of Computer Management Assistant in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications Required:

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED

1.      Education:  Completion of secondary School, as well as A+ Certification, Network+ Certification, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and Cisco
      Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) or equivalent qualifications is required.
2.      Experience:  Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in current Local Area Network (LAN) systems operations, latest release
      Microsoft products, modern Information Technology (IT) hardware, software, systems, communication components and cabling is required.
3.      Language-          English level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking is required.4.      Knowledge:-          Comprehensive knowledge of Local Area network design and support methodologies is required.-          In-depth knowledge of personal computers, peripherals and LAN hardware including server switches, hubs, cabling, patch panels, wireless internet
      hardware and various other hardware required for the implementation of LAN/WAN systems is required.
-          Technical understanding of Microsoft Office, Citrix and Blackberry administration software as well as an understanding of audio-visual and mobile
      phone equipment is required.
5.      Skills and Abilities:  
-          
Ability to design, implement and maintain LAN/WAN systems as part of a support team is required.
-          Ability to trouble-shoot, and a pro-active approach to system administration and maintenance are required.-          Ability to train, instruct and assist new users in systems operation is required.-          Ability to explain complex technical information to non-technical users  is required.-          Attention to detail is required.

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:
The Computer Management Assistant works directly with the Computer Management Specialist to implement and maintain the network system for CDC-South Africa.  Responsibilities include implementing upgrades and maintenance of Local Area Network (LAN) systems, computer hardware, software, systems architecture, security, and training, internet connectivity for CDC-South Africa at the Pretoria office and other sites, as well as Wide Area Network (WAN) systems organizations such as Atlanta.  Incumbent participates in capacity planning, implementation of upgrades and maintenance of all LAN/WAN connectivity, IT resources and usage; and by trouble shooting to resolve problems related to connectivity, printers, hardware and software escalated to their attention by IT Help Desk Technicians.  The incumbent will implement video conference technology as directed by the Computer Management Specialist.
