Local Guard Coordinator

The U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg is seeking an individual for the position of Local Guard Coordinator in the Regional Security Office (RSO).

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications Required:

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED

1.      Education:  Successful completion of secondary school (grade 12) is required.2.      Experience:  Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in the commercial security guard business, civilian or government
      police, or military.  At least one year experience should be at the supervisory level.
3.      Language:  -          English level IV – (fluent) in writing, reading and speaking is required. (This will be tested).4.      Knowledge:  -         An expert knowledge and understanding of the theoretical principles of RSO responsibilities, physical protection, standard security
     practices and procedures, developing and deploying of community style policing (mobile patrol) models, armed response are required.
-        Good working knowledge of standard security equipment is required.-        Strong knowledge of personnel management, budget formulation and tracking are required.-        Thorough knowledge of host country operational environment, language is required.5.      Skills and Abilities: -         Keen analytical abilities, originality of ideas, creative solutions, and the exercise of sound, independent judgment are required.-         Ability to make independent judgments on institutional capabilities and the adequacy of security systems and controls is required.-         Ability to rapidly assimilate and assess real-time threat information and issue orders for the immediate conduct of defensive operations is required.-         Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft XP Professional Word, Excel and related office software as well as the internet. (This will be tested)

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:
The incumbent is responsible for the planning, management, integration and leadership of the guard force, armed mobile patrol, residential security and surveillance detection programs.  At the direction of the RSO, the Local Guard Force (LGC) is responsible for development of an integrated defensive security plan, for oversight and daily management of Post’s security forces, and in coordination with the Foreign Service National Investigator (FSNI), for security planning and execution of drills with the host-nation security forces and other elements at Post.
