The opportunity
We are looking for a Health and Safety Specialist, based at our coal operation, Hail Creek, to coordinate health and safety functions at the mine site. You will also support and maintain the use of the Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) system on site to ensure that all site personnel understand and utilize this effectively.
Located 90km south-west of Mackay in central Queensland, Hail Creek Mine is a modern open cut coal operation producing high quality coking coal for export markets. Winner of the Australian Coal Mine of the Year in 2008, it offers attractive commute rosters out of Mackay, with accommodation in the on-site village which boasts modern and comfortable facilities.

What the role entails
This position is a great opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual with the ability to have measurable impacts on the health and safety of the operations employees. Working on a drive in drive out roster from Mackay (9 day fortnight) and reporting to the Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) Manager, you will be:
- Leading a team of health, safety and emergency response professionals
- Promoting health and safety across operations through advice, support and training
- Coordinating the team workload management and delivery
- Leading risk assessments and incident investigations
- Coaching individuals at all levels of the business around health and safety matters
- Driving safety interactions and engaging employees on safety matters and improvements
What you will need for this role
To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have:
- A degree in Health, Safety or a related discipline
- Extensive experience in a health and safety leadership role within the heavy industry
Your experience in the mining industry will be highly regarded. A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or Occupational Health and Safety along with prior leadership experience will be desirable.
