Founded in 1903, Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world’s longest-established international conservation organisation. Our vision is to create a sustainable future for the planet where biodiversity is conserved by the people living closest to it. We aim to do this through the conservation of threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science and take account of human needs.  We have become a trusted entity in the world of conservation. Today FFI is active in over 40 countries.

The FFI Americas & Caribbean Programme works to deliver the organisation’s mission in the wider Caribbean and Latin America. The programme is active in a dozen countries in the region, with an array of partnerships with governments, non-government organisations, businesses and community groups. There are currently three FFI offices, located in Nicaragua, Ecuador and Brazil. With the position advertised here, we intend to re-establish a full-time presence in Belize.

The Americas & Caribbean Programme seeks to bring FFI expertise, innovative approaches and resources to bear on landscape, site and species conservation and the associated challenges of sustainable development, especially for those local people and stakeholders who depend on the natural ecosystem for their livelihoods. The programme is working to conserve globally important habitats including dry forest, lowland Chocó and Amazonian forest, and coastal and marine habitats in the eastern tropical Pacific and Caribbean. We also work on charismatic flagship species, notably marine turtles, and the restoration of endangered island endemics in the Caribbean.

FFI is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Programme Manager (Marine), Americas and Caribbean,to manage and provide expert guidance to certain field projects, principally in Belize and in the other countries where we work with national partner NGOs on marine conservation projects, currently Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica and Ecuador. In the case of Belize, the Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve project will be a priority, but the position will also provide advice and support across a range of topics – not only marine - to the Ministry of Forestry, Fisheries and Sustainable Development and to FFI’s principal NGO partner in southern Belize, Ya’axché Conservation Trust.

The successful applicant will have at least a Master’s degree with a range of technical expertise relevant to conservation, including marine conservation. S/he will have a minimum of five years’ field experience in conservation, including work in Latin America or the Caribbean, and will have the behaviours and skills necessary to collaborate effectively with governments, non-governmental partners and stakeholders. S/he will be highly organised and be self-reliant yet a good team player, responsive to the ideas of colleagues and partners. The ability to communicate fluently in both English and Spanish is essential. This position will be based in Belize City or Belmopan, with international travel, mainly within Central America.
