Policy And Outreach Associate

Position Summary:

The Policy and Outreach Associate provides critical support in the development and implementation of CHANGE's policy advocacy and constituent outreach. The Policy and Outreach Associate will build institutional relationships with individuals and organizations and mobilize key constituencies to advance CHANGE's policy goals, including through the implementation of forums, workshops, and social media campaigns.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In coordination with other CHANGE staff, plan and develop advocacy and outreach strategies and tactics to influence U.S. foreign policies related to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
  • Coordinate and conduct outreach to grassroots and grasstops in key legislative districts to mobilize support for CHANGE's issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with advocacy and/or grassroots staff at key partner organizations.
  • Develop and distribute materials (such as fact sheets, policy briefs) to support grassroots/grasstops in their advocacy efforts.
  • Conceptualize and organize community briefings and advocacy days.
  • Organize and implement annual advocacy workshop and legislative visits for grassroots and grasstops leaders.
  • Follow the legislative process and key developments in Congress related to sexual and reproductive health and rights, and apply knowledge to strategic thinking on outreach.
  • Assist other CHANGE staff with meetings and outreach with members of Congress and administration.
  • Represent CHANGE and CHANGE's policy agenda in assigned coalitions. Attend and represent CHANGE at other coalition meetings as needed.
  • Develop and maintain legislative, constituent, and partner contact lists for outreach communications.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in related field: sexual and reproductive health and rights, women's rights and/or public health.
  • Minimum 1 year advocacy and/or organizing experience (campus, community, regional, or national).
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship development skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team, within and among institutions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to translate legislative and policy language for advocacy targeted at U.S. grassroots.
  • Familiarity with all Microsoft application software. Experience with Salsa online organizing and constituent outreach tool a plus.
  • Experience lobbying, organizing events, conducting media work, and/or organizing conferences preferred.
  • A demonstrated commitment to women's rights and public health and a strong commitment to the organization's mission and to high-level performance are essential.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience). Background in sexual and reproductive health and rights issues, human rights and/or public health a plus.
  • Prior experience in a position with programmatic duties and responsibilities.
Salary and Benefits: Starting salary for this position is $40,000. CHANGE offers an exceptional benefits package.
