In its 105 years of existence the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment has built up a solid international reputation for training architects and urban planners and guiding doctoral students. With some 3,000 students and around 600 staff members, including around 200 FTEs devoted to scientific personnel, our faculty is one of the largest educational programmes of TU Delft and is one of the most prestigious architecture faculties in Europe. The faculty has long been known for providing a thorough design education and conducting research in the field of the built environment. Around 30 Professors carry out work in a diverse range of academic areas, which together cover the entire field of the built environment. For more information, see bk.tudelft.nl.
The Department of Real Estate and Housing (RE&H) provides education and performs scientific research in the management of the built environment. RE&H helps to meet the growing demand for building engineers with the necessary knowledge and skills relating to the management aspects of the initiation, development, and design of the built environment. The department has an annual MSc student intake of about 80.
The field of building economics applies economic principles to planning, developing, financing, designing, constructing, using and operating buildings, areas and real estate stocks. The Assistant Professor specialises in applying economics theories and concepts to the workings of the real estate market and its three interrelated markets: the space market, the asset market and the construction and development market. He/she will be able to identify, interpret and elaborate the economic considerations inherent to these markets and their influence on developments in the built environment. Together with three Assistant Professors/lecturers, he/she supports the main scientific disciplines of the Real Estate and Housing Department in the application and understanding of economic theories and concepts.
