Director of Remedies, Business and Financial Analysis

April 2014 will see the official launch of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the successor body to the Competition Commission and the Office of Fair Trading. This new organisation will build on the existing work of the UK competition authorities to promote competition, within and outside the UK. Our mission is to make markets work well in the interests of consumers, businesses and the economy. We have set ourselves the goal of becoming even better - as a world-leading competition and consumer authority. For those who join us at this formative time it offers a uniquely exciting professional opportunity.
Our Director of Remedies, Business and Financial Analysis will make a vital contribution to our work, ensuring that high quality, timely financial and business advice underpins the design and implementation of remedies to competition or market issues identified by CMA. As an active member of CMA’s leadership team, you will promote and support the highest standards of business analysis through an effective blend of challenge and support to colleagues and promoting a commitment to continuous improvement. Your own economic and business analysis skills will be key in developing proposed remedies to unfair or uncompetitive activities in a range of marketplaces and you should be an able influencer and negotiator who can lead on the implementation of remedial activity. You will be a credible ambassador for our work in a range of settings, ensuring that we establish a reputation for best practice in our field, and that we have the right knowledge and skills at our disposal, whether that is in-house or from external support, to deliver the highest quality outcomes.
It is essential for you to have a high quality first degree, ideally in an economic, maths or science subject. You are a qualified accountant or an MBA with a strong financial bias. We expect your career to include exposure to corporate finance, business strategy, regulatory finance or competition/economic regulation.
