Assistant Director, Sector Regulation
April 2014 will see the official launch of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the successor body to the Competition Commission and the Office of Fair Trading. This new organisation will build on the existing work of the UK competition authorities to promote competition, within and outside the UK. Our mission is to make markets work well in the interests of consumers, businesses and the economy. We have set ourselves the goal of becoming even better - as a world-leading competition and consumer authority. For those who join us at this formative time it offers a uniquely exciting professional opportunity.
This role will see you establish and subsequently manage our Sector Regulatory Unit (SRU). The SRU will work in partnership with other regulatory bodies within the UK and the EU to promote fair and open competition across a range of industries, drawing on regulatory and prohibitive legislation when required. You will ensure our work is supported by effective collaboration and communication with a range of stakeholders within our organisation, with key partners and in government. An important contributor to a wide range of projects, you will offer well informed research and analysis on competition casework and enforcement and contribute particular sector expertise to regulatory appeals where required.
Strong people and resource management skills will ensure that a culture of high performance is embedded in the SRU team and that colleagues receive the right support, challenge and training to fully develop their potential. An understanding of competition policy principles and the application of competition law in regulated sectors will be essential. The ability to work with a wide range of parties, with tenacity and empathy, recognising different motivations and agendas will be a valuable asset.
