The International AIDS Society (IAS) is the world’s membership society for individuals working professionally in HIV, bringing together individuals and organizations from around the world to address current issues in HIV basic, clinical and prevention science. The IAS has over 15,000 members from 193 countries, and is based in Geneva, Switzerland. The IAS is the custodian of the world’s premier gathering on HIV/AIDS, the International AIDS Conference. It also organizes the IAS Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention that focuses on the biomedical aspects of HIV/AIDS. Those conferences alternately take place every two years. In addition, the IAS has initiated several projects to further support the professional development of key stakeholders coming from resource-limited countries and to leverage knowledge, experience and influence of its members to advocate for the policy changes and political commitments necessary to end the AIDS epidemic. The IAS is committed as well to provide assistance to regional AIDS societies/networks and conferences. Washington, D.C. has been chosen to host the XIX International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012), the largest international meeting on HIV, where every two years 25,000 participants representing all stakeholders in the global response to HIV meet to assess progress and identify future priorities. AIDS 2012 is organized by the International AIDS Society (IAS), in partnership with government, scientific and civil society partners in the United States and international partners from civil society and the United Nations. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, the IAS is the world’s leading independent association of HIV professionals. The conference organizers are committed to making AIDS 2012 accessible to people from resource-limited settings and communities, researchers, young people, community activists and civil society representatives. Scholarships provide financial assistance to a number of people from resource-limited settings and communities, key populations at higher risk of HIV exposure, people living with HIV, young people, researchers and students to help them attend the conference. Over 10,000 applications are expected and roughly 800 scholarships will be offered. The IAS is seeking a Scholarship Programmes Assistant, starting 1 March 2012.
