FUNDRAISING SPECIALIST ,UNICEF

UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. Guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, it strives to establish children’s rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behaviour and action towards children. In South Africa, UNICEF supports national efforts to realise children’s rights by promoting evidence-based policy advocacy and strategic partnerships as a means to leverage policies and resources for children, giving special attention to vulnerable children and disparity reduction. It works in the areas of health and nutrition, early childhood development, basic education, child protection and social policy, planning, monitoring and evaluation.

Under the general guidance of the Chief: External Relations and Strategic Partnerships, the Fundraising Specialist will develop and manage private sector fundraising and partnership initiatives, including individual giving initiatives, such as face-to-face, direct mail, electronic outreach, as well as corporate alliances with the business sector. The appointee will also manage a comprehensive stewardship programme for both individual and corporate donors.

Requirements:

  • Advanced University degree in any of the following: Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Fundraising, Social Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, or equivalent. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
  • At least 5 years’ hands-on experience with managing corporate partnerships and/or pledge donor management, preferably in a non-profit or charity environment, including: Content development, control group testing, analysing and reporting on donor, recruitment and retention, short and long term, follow-up communication plans and materials
  • Knowledge of current theories and practices in fundraising, planning and strategy
  • Communication - Excellent ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form
  • Persuading and influencing skills
  • Specific skills in writing articles/stories for traditional and electronic media
  • Working with people - Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with public and private sector partners, and other UNICEF partners
  • Strong planning and organising skills.


Duration: These are 1-year fixed-term contract positions, with the possibility of extension.
