UNICEF EDUCATION OFFICER - (SPORTS DEVELOPMENT)

Guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, it strives to establish children’s rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behaviour and action towards children. In South Africa, UNICEF supports national efforts to realise children’s rights by promoting evidence-based policy advocacy and strategic partnerships as a means to leverage policies and resources for children, giving special attention to vulnerable children and disparity reduction. It works in the areas of health and nutrition, early childhood development, basic education, child protection and social policy, planning, monitoring and evaluation.

Under the guidance of the Youth and Adolescent Development Specialist, the Education Officer will be responsible for the planning, implementation, strategising, monitoring and evaluation of Sport for Development programme. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting government authorities to plan and facilitate capacity development programmes within Sport for Development/School Sport and ensure meaningful youth participation and development.

Requirements:

  • University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Education, Sports Science, Social Sciences, or a field(s) relevant to international development assistance
  • At least two years’ progressively professional work experience in education; policy analysis and programme development; community development work; programme management and monitoring and evaluation
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in sports management, youth development and event management/organisation. Experience in working in the United Nation or in Government will be an added advantage
  • Communication - Excellent ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form
  • Working with people - Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with public and private sector partners, and other UNICEF partners
  • Strong planning and organising ability
  • Programme/project management in education
  • Training and capacity development in education.

Duration: These are 1-year fixed-term contract positions, with the possibility of extension.
