Overall Job Purpose
Reporting to the RBB Head of Data Privacy to provide proactive data privacy legal support and risk management to RBB Business Units, middle and back office functions, including support to RBB COO/CFO and Technology.
Key Accountabilities & approximate time split (%)
  • Provide appropriate management of data privacy legal risk across RBB's technology function, in particular risks arising from the set up and reorganisation of RBB Technology's global operations and commercial arrangements with third parties (including but not limited to IT and outsourcing contracts). Analyse data privacy legal risks and provide a timely, commercial and pragmatic advice to the business or support area concerned on these issues.
  • Develop and deliver strategic data privacy legal risk management initiatives to assist senior management assess and manage its legal risks e.g. business training, legal updates, legal intranet.
  • Participate in the development of processes, policies and procedures and advice designed to reduce data privacy legal risk and/or increase the efficiency of the team
  • Roll out and embed the data privacy standard across RBB business units, middle office and back office functions (including operations in the UK, Europe, Singapore, India, China, Lithuania and South Africa).
  • Identify and address legal data privacy issues arising from commercial contracts (including IT and outsourcing contracts) entered or to be entered into by RBB.
  • Develop and roll out bespoke agreements, checklists, policies and training for RBB's technology function.
  • Establish credibility at the most senior levels in the organisation. First class influencing & negotiating skills and ability to plan how best to win support and gain co-operation from key decision makers and stakeholders.
  • Recognize the impact and opportunities of activities across the organisation. Explicitly seeks to understand and support the goals and objectives of others. Removes duplicated effort. Makes cost effective procedural changes to improve customer experience.
  • Be the subject matter expert and point of reference for data privacy in RBB.
  • Present and communicate complex privacy issues effectively and in a non-technical way to the business and senior management. Confidently be able to communicate with clarity and purpose both in written and verbal formats.
Person Specification
  • Familiarity with the businesses and products across the banking/financial services industry and relevant legal issues affecting them.
  • Solid technical knowledge of contract, commercial, IT and/or outsourcing law.
  • Solid technical knowledge of data privacy law across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Analysis, judgment and integrity.
  • Strong communication skills - verbal and written (technical and non technical).
  • Business awareness and commercial focus.
  • Delivery of imaginative solutions under pressure and in a change environment.
