Chevron's Deepwater Exploration & Production Business Unit is accepting online applications for the position of Subsea Wellhead Subject Matter Expert (SME) to be located in Houston, Texas.

Overview:
This position will work in our Deepwater Exploration and Projects Department (DWEP) to resolve all Wellhead design issues including those related to Worst Case Discharge and Chevron Representation on the subject in industry forums. Additionally, the Subsea Wellhead SME will work with and support in-house DWEP Engineers with technical data sheets from the manufacturer. This support work will most likely occur during the design stages of the Professional Engineer certification process for permitting.

This position could transfer to the Chevron Energy Technology Company (ETC) for a Global Drilling and Completions support role. Job complexity is significant as well depths exceed 30,000 feet; bottom hole pressures exceed 20,000 psi and annular clearance is extremely tight. Extensive dynamic thermal modeling is required to simulate worst case discharge situations and in some cases FEA work is required. An extensive understanding of deep well and HPHT designs are critical.
Position Details: Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Review and assure that subsea wellhead equipment for all new DWEP D&C well designs conform to the Code of Federal Regulations of the United States and Chevron DWEP requirements.
  • Stay abreast of subsea wellhead equipment Industry standards (API6A, API17D and new developments) and represent Chevron's views in Industry forums on these subsea wellhead equipment related standards.
  • For all changes during DWEP well operations that effect subsea wellhead equipment, review and assure that the wellhead equipment for the well will conform to the Code of Federal Regulations of the United States and Chevron DWEP requirements.
  • Support NOJV subsea wellhead equipment reviews as directed by the engineering manager.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Demonstrated critical design qualification, assurance review and auditing skills are preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years engineering experience with subsea wellhead design, manufacturing and operations or willingness to rapidly develop an equivalent level of competency.
  • Previous experience with mechanical designs including extensive FEA methods and materials selections including NACE rated alloys or willingness to rapidly develop an equivalent level of competency.
  • Previous experience using API6A and API17D standards. Ability to represent Chevron's views in Industry forums on these standards or willingness to rapidly develop an equivalent level of competency.
  • Requires HUET certification for occasional rig visits, from time to time.
