The succesful candidate will provide technical support for research activities for the application of high throughout SNP marker genotyping to support IRRI's breeding programs. He/she will work as part of a team to support the lab operations in the Molecular Marker Application Laboratory (MMAL) and will report to a Researcher to perform the activities listed below.



Duties

1. Provide technical support for molecular marker genotyping, including grinding leaf tissue, extracting and diluting DNA, genotyping samples using various SNP protocols, managing sample storage and keeping careful track of DNA samples using barcode labeling and LIMS software.

2. Prepare laboratory reagents and solutions, make primer aliquots, help prepare taq polymerase extraction, manage labortory supplies and inventory using LIMS software, performing routine maintenance of equipment, keep logs of equipment use, and keep the laboratory organized and running smoothly.

3. Assist with growing populations of plants in the greenhouse, harvesting leaf tissue in the greenhouse and field, and carefully tracking individual plants and subsequent seed samples using barcode labeling and LIMS software.

4. Assist with training activities, including helping with workshop sessions and teaching others basic laboratory techniques.

5. Assist in basic data processing, ensuring laboratory safety protocols and performing all other realted duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

Qualification requirements:


  • At least 2 years college education with a BSc in Biology or Plant Breeding preferred
  • At least 2 years laboratory experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of laboratory methods and preparing reagents, experience with greenhouse and field experiments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required
