Look North, the BBC's regional programme for Yorkshire, needs a new assistant editor to lead our operational team. Look North is the most watched news programme in Yorkshire and is very much the region's flagship, but the assistant editor leads a creative, ambitious and expanding team which is responsible for more programmes than any other English region, including Inside Out, Sunday Politics, Helicopter Heroes, Late Kick Off and The Superleague Show. From April we will also have new commitments providing crews, engineers and live vehicles for BBC News, seven days a week across the north of England and occasionally beyond.
You'll be one of four assistant editors supporting the tv editor. We are looking for someone who, as well as leading the operational team, will take initial responsibility for the development of operational and technological policy and strategy.
You'll have relevant experience managing tv teams. You'll need a detailed understanding of the technical and editorial requirements of tv newsgathering and production, as well as good editorial judgement. You'll be expected to lead the introduction of new technologies to enhance output, improve working practices and collaborate across the BBC. You'll oversee recruitment, development and objective setting for the operational team. Experience managing budgets as well as an understanding of health and safety legislation would be an advantage.
For more information please contact Tim Smith 07860 819387 or Helen Thomas 07715 704450. Closing date Monday February 25th.
We would expect interviews to take place on Tuesday 5 March 2013.
